Norris Book
Q&A: About Norris Books & Publishing Process
We’ve seen some questions about our books, pricing, and publishing approach—so here’s a little insight into how we work.
Q: Why are your books more affordable than imported editions?
We print locally using FSC-certified paper (just like major publishers) and collaborate with local illustrators, editors, and designers. By sourcing everything locally, we keep prices low while maintaining quality. Plus, our books are transported within the region, keeping delivery fees affordable.
Q: Are these unauthorized copies?
No. Our collection is carefully researched to ensure that every book we publish is in the public domain. We have a dedicated team that cross-checks copyright status before publishing, so readers can trust that our editions are legal. Norris's goal is to make classic literature accessible and affordable for Indonesian readers, so they don’t have to rely on expensive imports.
Q: Do you use AI for book design?
No, Norris does not use AI-generated designs. Every cover is created by real-life designers, and we will even be sharing behind-the-scenes live recordings of our artists at work.
Q: Why does your design look similar to [other publishers]?
While Norris is inspired by timeless book designs, our approach is unique—we feature local illustrators and distinct visual elements to create affordable, high-quality books that stand out.
Q: Are you pretending to be a UK publisher?
Not at all. Norris is based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and this is clearly stated in the editorial page of every book we publish. Our website uses a .uk domain to reach a broader Southeast Asian audience, but our focus remains on making books affordable, especially in Indonesia.
Q: Do you comply with Indonesian publishing laws?
Yes. Our brand is registered with Indonesia’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), and all our books have ISBNs and are officially registered in Perpustakaan Nasional (National Library of Indonesia), following all local publishing regulations.
Q: What kind of paper do you use?
We use FSC-certified paper, a paper that comes from forests that are managed responsibly, as verified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Several major publishers utilize FSC-certified paper, including Hachette, HarperCollins, Pan Macmillan, and Arcadia Publishing.
Q: You have a marketplace account. Is it legal or authorized?
Yes. Norris has an official marketplace account on Shopee, and it is fully legal. Our Shopee store is registered with DJKI (Directorate General of Intellectual Property), which is a requirement for selling books officially. We also had to provide proof that we are an Indonesian company operating within the country. That is why you can be confident that our books are legal products.
Our mission is simple: more books, more readers, more access to knowledge at affordable price. Thank you for being part of this journey.
