The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is about a young man named Dorian Gray, whose stunning beauty catches the attention of a painter, Basil Hallward. Basil paints a portrait of Dorian, capturing his youthful perfection. Influenced by the charming but cynical Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian wishes that he could stay young forever while the portrait ages instead. Miraculously, his wish comes true—Dorian remains flawless while his portrait reflects the corruption of his soul as he indulges in a life of pleasure, selfishness, and moral decay. Over time, guilt and fear consume him, leading to a tragic end when he tries to destroy the painting and, in doing so, destroys himself.
